About the role
The democratisation of data, driven by new technologies and communications channels, opens up exciting new possibilities for ONS. It enables us to better engage with our customers, develop more relevant and targeted products, and increase our audience reach, and their understanding of what we do. This, in short, is your challenge. You will lead, develop and implement a brand new digital publishing strategy that will deliver on these three important priorities. You will look at what we share and how we share, and ultimately, change the way people see, use and interact with statistics. So, as well as taking ownership of the ONS website, spearheading its continuous improvement, you will look to further develop our use of social media channels. You will also develop strong external publishing relationships to help our content reach wider channels. Bringing together teams of analysts, designers, developers and storytellers you will produce rich, engaging and interesting content for publication across new and alternative channels and platforms.
You should have practical experience of digital publishing though a background in statistics will, of course, be an advantage. You should have the proven ability to build, lead and develop teams while focusing on performance and results. You should also be able to show where you have led, managed and communicated change initiatives and business strategies. Intellectually agile, you have strong judgement skills and the strength of mind and personality to make sound decisions on sensitive issues. You have a talent for effectively balancing and managing teams, making the most of available resources to get the job done, when it needs to be done. But it’s more than that: you will be a real inspiration to colleagues, customers or stakeholders, inspiring them with your energy, expertise and enthusiasm, not to mention credible communication and presentation skills.
