Here at the National Trust, we want even more people to enjoy our extraordinary places. We want people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved with them, be inspired by them, and love them as much as we do. That’s why we’ve put some bold ambitions in place. We want everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to feel like a member of the National Trust and, by 2020, five million will be.
If you want to work for an organisation with a fascinating past and an exciting future then the National Trust could be for you. Our places are open to all and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in what we do. That’s really important to us. Our careers are as varied as the places we care for and that’s why we look for people from all backgrounds, with a variety of skills and abilities to help us maintain our places ‘forever for everyone’.
In this important role, you’ll help turn our interesting stories and important messages into effective, engaging content viewed by millions on the National Trust website.
About the role
There’s a lot happening here at the National Trust, especially on the digital front. We’re being more innovative in the ways that we communicate with audiences than ever before. And with over two million unique monthly visitors, our website plays a crucial role in connecting people with our special places and spaces. So, it’s vital that the content on our site is interesting, inspiring and engaging – which is exactly where you come in.
As part of our talented Content and Communications team, responsible for growing and projecting our voice, you’ll create, edit, reproduce and upload compelling content on the National Trust website. The sheer variety of our work means that we have so many interesting stories to tell and pieces of information to share with our audiences – from news updates to inspiring stories about our places and projects.Working closely with digital and content teams and our wider internal Marketing Agency, you’ll ensure that our content production is joined-up, effective and audience-focused. You’ll unite your existing knowledge of content production with an understanding of the priorities, processes and needs of our internal stakeholders to produce engaging content that delivers on all counts. How could we be doing things better when it comes to content production? You’ll show us. We’ll look to your creativity and expertise to help us optimise our capabilities in this area. Through testing and refining different ways of integrating content production, you’ll help ensure that we’re connecting with our online audiences in the most effective ways.
Having worked in a similar content-focused role for a demanding and diverse website, you’ll come to us armed with an impressive track record of writing, editing and proof-reading compelling, creative web copy. From press releases to photography, you know exactly what makes engaging web content – content that will enthuse and excite new and existing audiences. You’ve an up-to-the-second knowledge of the writing for the web, online tools and digital platforms and you fully understand the differences in how users consume content online compared to offline – skills which will help you to reproduce content effectively. Credible and insightful, you’ll come to us with experience of using content management systems and following publishing processes, copyright legalisations, editorial styles and brand guidelines. You’ll be creative and full of great ideas but you’ll always listen to others’ requirements and consider users’ and stakeholders’ needs in all that you do, delivering high quality work even to tight deadlines. As good with people as you are with the written word: you’ll be a great team player, comfortable collaborating with colleagues across the business and helping to coach them on content production best practices. Right now, you’ll be ready for this exciting challenge; ready to apply your experience and expertise to help us share our stories and engage with our multi-millions of web users even more effectively.
Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career. We’ll give you all the training, support and continued professional development you need, and we appreciate that work/life balance is important. You can also look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here.
