Director of Big Data Engineering | Global Sports Brand | Germany | €100k
RedCat Digital are working with one of the largest sports & Ecommerce brands in the world to find a Director of Big Data Engineering to join the team based just outside of Nuremberg, Germany.
Please note….My client is actively sourcing somebody from outside of Germany for this role and is willing to assist with relocation costs of accommodation, schooling etc. Additionally it is an English speaking office so German speaking is not required. This role is open to anybody who has the right to work in the EU.

Their products break records, set trends and make history in the sports world and they take this ambitious mind set in to the business world.
My client’s current aim is to build a world-class data-driven team with Big Data being at the heart of everything they do. Their current need is for a Director of Big Data Engineering to join the team in their German HQ, the role will entail working closely with internal business partners to understand their challenges and define how data science can help improve their business. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership and guidance for analysis of both internal and external data. Be responsible for the organisation’s commitment to efficient and effective analysis of textual/numerical/visual/audio information.
- Create the data backbone powering Analytics and AI solutions automating processes in the supply chain, product creation, demand forecasting, pricing, marketing campaign design and many other fields.
- Set research goals, make effective proposals for the investment of funds in research projects, play a major role in the development of the organisation’s research policy, and supervise the work of a research function.
- Lead the development of architectures for complex systems, ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both external, and internal customers. Take full responsibility for the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements within a significant area of the organisation. Establish policy and strategy for the selection of systems architecture components, and co-ordinate design activities, promoting the discipline to ensure consistency. Ensure that appropriate standards (corporate, industry, national and international) are adhered to.
The right person for this role will be an experienced and proven Big Data professional who has been working in a consumer based company. You will have excellent hands-on analytical and enigneeing skills and will be educated to masters degree level in computer science, mathematics, statistics or something similar as a minimum and will have at least 4 years commercial experience as a Data Scientist.
We are looking for somebody who is able to lead a team of data engineers and has proven leadership capabilities when it comes to Big Data teams. You will have a deep knowledge of data base technologies and Big Data Frameworks (Hadoop, Spark), advanced data modelling, machine learning, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), real-time and batch integration capabilities.
