The National Extension College (NEC), a leading distance learning provider and an educational charity, based in Cambridge, is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Head of Marketing and Ecommerce. The College has a good reputation and a strong track record and is positioned for growth and further success.
This is an exciting role and great opportunity for an ambitious and committed individual to lead and develop the sales, marketing and digital activities of the College. We would expect candidates to have experience across the key areas of marketing and digital in a commercial organisation, and are looking for the opportunity to take a step up to a more strategic role leading a small team and directly involved in setting and implementing the strategy. The post is full time and will need to be mainly office-based in our Cambridge office with some travel, but flexible working would be considered.
Reporting directly to the CEO the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate high levels of business acumen and the ability to lead on the setting and implementation of strategic goals. They will be a member of the Senior Management Team, with three direct reports initially.
The Head of Marketing and Ecommerce will take ownership of marketing and sales for the College. The aim of the role is to drive cost-effective revenue growth through either new or existing channels. Candidates will need to have hands-on experience and be skilled in the deployment of modern marketing, with working knowledge of marketing automation, biddable media and SEO etc.
This role will manage all activities relating to growing student numbers. While marketing channels account for a large part of this, product development, direct mail, ecommerce and web development are also important facets. Excellent communication skills and leadership abilities are essential for this role. The successful applicant will be able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, manage third party agencies and be comfortable with agile project management concepts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing, Sales & Lead Nurturing:
●Grow the share of ecommerce sales
●Champion the implementation of automated marketing channels at scale
●Create and implement an annual campaign plan
●Optimise the existing marketing mix to grow sales and profitability
●Test and learn new marketing channels with a view to developing a more diverse media mix
●Own the adoption of performance marketing channels with a view of creating marketing channels NEC can leverage as needed
●Scale inbound marketing channels over the long term such as SEO and online PR
●Review and optimise the current lead generation and nurturing processes
●Support all proposed activities with a robust business case and a view of what success is
●Provide timely, transparent and insightful reporting and guidance on how to drive NEC forward through these channels.
●Regular monitoring of competitive nature of NEC offering
●Provide feedback on how competitors are moving within the market
●Contribute to the development of new product and service offerings
●Manage the integration of external agencies for public relations, social media, design and digital development
●Across digital be able to make sure of agile project management tools, being able to be responsive to changing priorities and environments
●Manage time, cost and resource allocations relevant to potential impact
●Keep an updated product roadmap to facilitate the engagement of multiple stakeholders and involvement in prioritisation.
●Own the customer journey and seek constant improvement through A/B testing and feature development
Management & Administration:
●Develop and manage marketing budgets
●Manage and monitor the team's performance against targets and KPIs
●Responsible for recruiting motivating and training of talent. In addition to the coaching, development and mentoring of the marketing and business development team
●Responsible for training and development of employees and the management of the integration of external and internal duties in the marketing and business development role.
●Integrity and honesty in all areas and a passion and commitment to NEC and its mission
●Adaptable and politically astute with an understanding of the policy context in which NEC operates
●Highly intelligent, with good IT skills, analytical and entrepreneurial
●Able to deal pragmatically with complex and fast changing situations using sound judgement
●Hands-on and can-do approach, capable of working in a collaborative and effective manner with colleagues at all levels. Gets satisfaction from solving problems.
●Educated to degree level and preferably with professional marketing qualifications and a commitment to CPD.
●Ideally experience of working in the education sector or a customer-facing business.
